AIZAWL: With the arrival of 136 people from
Manipur in the last 24 hours, the total number of internally displaced people (IDPs) taking shelter in
Mizoram rose to 7,663 till 6 pm on Tuesday, said the state home department officials.
The new entrants have taken shelter in Kolasib district on Assam border and Aizawl districts.
The Kolasib district hosted 2,708 IDPs, while Aizawl district has offered shelter to 2,496 people from Manipur.
As the influx of IDPs from Manipur continued, a number of people have returned to their respective villages, the officials said.
Meanwhile, leaders of the Mizo Zirlai Pawl, the apex Mizo student body, on Tuesday visited the Discipleship Making Ministry Children's Home at Berawtlang near Aizawl. They offered aid, including cash, essential goods, Mizo Bibles, beddings and stationery items.
The Children's Home was shifted from Manipur's Churachandpur district to Aizawl after the violence in the neighbouring state erupted.
