Guwahati: Thirty-two people who were allegedly involved in Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) and fake gold racket have surrendered before police in
Assam’s Lakhimpur district in the last 48 hours.
Police said among those who surrendered were one Ajgar Ali, whose mother had lodged an FIR levelling
extortion charges against SI Junmoni Rabha, who died in a
road accident last week under mysterious circumstances.
Lakhimpur is one of the four districts that has been identified as the hotbed of fake notes and gold racket business, they added.
The surrender took place after Assam DGP GP Singh on Saturday, while speaking about the suspected angle of FICN and fake gold racket in Junmoni’s death case, warned that these illegal businesses would be decimated in 30 days.
After taking charge as Lakhimpur SP, IPS
Anand Mishra on Sunday said those involved in FICN and fake gold businesses would not be spared.
On May 15, Ajgar’s mother Amina Khatun lodged an FIR with the North Lakhimpur police accusing Junmoni of physically assaulting his son. Later, Junmoni was booked under the charges of criminal conspiracy, dacoity,
robbery or dacoity with an attempt to cause death or grievous hurt, wrongful restraint and putting person in fear of death or of grievous hurt in order to commit extortion based on Amina’s complaint.
