Cops bust fake gold racket in Arunachal
Itanagar: Police on Saturday busted a fake gold racket at Doimukh and seized 1.3kg of counterfeit gold.
Following intelligence inputs regarding attempts to trade counterfeit gold biscuits and coins in the region, an operation was carried out by Doimukh sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) under the supervision of Papum Pare superintendent of police, Taru Gusar.
Around 7.20pm, police intercepted a motorbike, near the Doimukh welcome gate and detained two suspects.
Subsequent interrogation led police to Nirjuli, where their other accomplices were arrested and a tempo, carrying a fake gold bar weighing 1.3 kg, was seized, Gusar said.
The accused have been identified as Baharul Islam (29), Mofikul Islam (29), Inamul Haque (32) and Ajijur Rahman (21), residents of Fatehpur, Bihpuria, Assam.
During interrogation, they admitted to attempting to sell the counterfeit gold to a prospective buyer from Delhi, whose details remain undisclosed, the SP said, adding that they have launched an investigation to identify other individuals linked to the racket.
