Lone BJP MLA of Mizoram resigns after CADC poll debacle

The lone BJP legislator in the Mizoram legislative assembly, Buddha Dhan Chakma, submitted his resignation from the post of the party's district president of the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) on Tuesday.

AIZAWL: The lone BJP legislator in the Mizoram legislative assembly, Buddha Dhan Chakma, submitted his resignation from the post of the party's district president of the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) on Tuesday.
In his resignation letter to the president of the state BJP unit, Chakma said he owned moral responsibility for the debacle over the party's performance in the just concluded election to the 20-member CADC.

In the CADC polls held on May 9, BJP managed to bag five seats, while Mizo National Front (MNF) won 10 seats and Congress secured five.
Three elected members of district council (MDCs) of BJP quit the party and joined MNF legislature party on the day the results were announced. Two Congress MDCs also joined MNF on the next day.
Meanwhile, all the 20 elected MDCs of the CADCs were sworn-in at the CADC session hall on Tuesday.
Protem chairman Hiranand Tongchangya administered the oath of office to the newly elected MDCs.
Submission of nomination for the chairman's post was opened till 3 pm on Tuesday. MNF nominee Kali Kumar Tongchangya was the lone candidate to contest for the chairman's post.
Tongchangya's election as the CADC chairman would be announced on Wednesday during the session.
The governor has already appointed the MNF legislature party leader, Rasik Mohan Chakma, as the chief executive member of the CADC on Monday and is most likely to be sworn-in to occupy the top post in the council soon.
