Manipur commemorated Vijay Diwas alongside the nation, celebrating India's triumph in the 1971 Indo-Pak war and Bangladesh's liberation at the 1st Manipur Rifles Banquet Hall on Monday. Chief minister N Biren Singh attended as the chief guest.
During his address, Biren highlighted the importance of remembering the fallen heroes and called upon citizens to maintain national unity, integrity, and development. "As we observe the day and pay tributes to those soldiers who had made supreme sacrifices to liberate Bangladesh during the war, let us also reaffirm our commitment, let us also work for unity and progress of the great country," Biren said.
Discussing the ongoing situation in Manipur, he emphasised that unity is crucial at present and warned about hidden forces attempting to disrupt the harmonious relationships between various communities.
He emphasised the importance of identifying illegal immigrants who arrived after 1961 and expressed concern about groups opposing border security measures.
The programme was presided over by Th Biswajit Singh, minister for power, agri, forest & climate change, SC & technology. The event saw participation from senior govt officials, police personnel and military representatives who paid respects to the war heroes.
Observed on Dec 16 each year, Vijay Diwas commemorates India's victory over Pakistan in 1971, which resulted in the formation of Bangladesh . The occasion honours the valour and dedication of the
Indian armed forces.
