Silchar: The Forum for Protection of Non-Mizos, an NGO, has urged the
Mizoram government to protect the non-Mizo traders in the state and allow them to run their businesses without any fear, reports BB Goswami.
Addressing the media at Silchar Press Club, the Cachar and Mizoram-based NGO, said the YMA issued a “notice” to non-Mizo traders on May 15 to wind up their businesses.
So far, 91 shops run by Bengalis and Hindi-speaking people have been forced shut in Aizawl, the forum said. “A deep conspiracy has started again to oust non-Mizos, including Bengalis, from Mizoram. In view of this situation, the Forum, in an emergency meeting on Wednesday, demanded the urgent intervention of the Centre and the governments of Mizoram and
Assam in this regard,” said the forum’s chief coordinator,
Shankar Dey. The members of the forum reiterated that all shops that have been shut must be allowed to reopen without delay. It expressed grave concern about how an organisation like YMA “is running a parallel administration”.
