Hubballi: In response to the rising attacks on conductors and transport staff, the NWKRTC decided to install CCTV cameras across its bus fleet. The organisation will also strengthen awareness initiatives about legal consequences for those who assault on duty govt employees, by playing videos and displaying informative posters inside the buses.
The transport corporation decided to install high-quality CCTV cameras in all the buses, to monitor passenger behaviour and ensure staff security. These cameras will be strategically placed to cover the entrance as well as the bus interior. The recorded footage can serve as evidence in case of any untoward incident.
Additionally, the corporation will launch a comprehensive awareness campaign to educate passengers about the legal consequences of assaulting on duty govt servants. The campaign will emphasise that assault on transport staff is a serious offence punishable under law.
The corportation will also train and educate the staff of their rights, and how to handle difficult situations, following proper protocols, and how to file complaints in case of assault. The corporation will work closely with local law enforcement to ensure quick response in emergency situations.
A dedicated helpline number will be set for the to register their grievances and complaints about the crew. These measures aim to create a safer working environment.
The NWKRTC managing director, Priyanga M, confirmed that they sought assistance from senior police to take action against individuals who attacked the staff without provocation. Multiple complaints regarding such incidents have been lodged at various police stations.
"More than 1,000 new buses are equipped with CCTVs as a standard feature. Cameras will be installed across the entire fleet of over 5,000 buses in a phased manner," she added.
