Haveri: A gram panchayat president from Hunagund in Shiggaon taluk of Haveri received a invitation from the Prime Minister's Office to attend the Republic Day celebration on Jan 26, in New Delhi. Lakshmavva Talawar is among 13 invitees from
Karnataka who will attend the
Republic Day event at the Red Fort.
"Lakshmavva Talawar got an invitation for the Republic Day event which will be held at the Red Fort in New Delhi. She is the president of Hunagund gram panchayat. The PMO has been inviting people who are at the bottom level to the R-Day event across the nation, including Karnataka. The NDA govt led by PM Narendra Modi is recognising persons, especially women. Lakshmavva belongs to a scheduled tribe, and the PMO recognised her service as a GP member by inviting her to this historic event," stated BJP functionary Bhojaraj Karudi.
Lakshmavva, 55, received only primary education and can manage to sign documents. She works in the family's agricultural field alongside her husband Lakshamappa and son in Hunagund village. The family comes from modest means and relies on farming for their sustenance.
"I never went anywhere since my childhood, and I do not know anything about Delhi. Moreover, I never used high-tech trains to travel, but now I must take a flight to attend the R-Day event. Furthermore, it makes me feel very special and happy that an ordinary woman like me was invited to the event," said Lakshmavva.
Until now, her only experience of the R-Day parade was through television broadcasts.
