Upa Lokayukta’s visit next week has Haveri officials springing into action
Haveri: In anticipation of Upa Lokayukta B Veerappa's visit to Haveri from Feb 12-14, govt offices and civic bodies are in a tizzy. The district hospital has initiated painting works, while the Haveri City Municipal Council (CMC) began an extensive cleaning campaign throughout the city, especially along NH-48. Issues that were previously overlooked, including drinking water provision, street illumination, and sanitation, are now being swiftly addressed.
Various departments are now resolving accumulated complaints and public issues.Local residents have voiced their dissatisfaction, noting that officials who ignored their grievances for over a year are now rushing to resolve them before Upa Lokayukta's arrival. Previously disregarded issues by Haveri CMC are now receiving urgent attention.
"We have appealed many times to repair roads by filling potholes, especially the railway overbridge, JP Circle Road, DC Office Roa, and others in the city but authorities did not take any action for past four months. However, now the officers concerned are in a hurry to fix the problem, not because of public demand, but only for the sake of Upa Lokayukta's three-day visit," shared activist MS Korishettar.
He also said that several departments like CMC, district hospital, PWD, RDPR, revenue, and others have been involved in addressing issues for the last 10 days. "Upa Lokayukta should observe all these instances of negligence and initiate action against them," Korishettar demanded.
PR Havanur, medical superintendent of Haveri District Hospital, clarified that cleaning and painting of the hospital and materials is routine work. "We have not undertaken such works only for Upa Lokayukta's visit. There is no issue in this regard, and we are always working to facilitate the public," he clarified.
