Imphal: An adviser of a prominent student body of the state, the All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU), was on Saturday arrested with a pistol during a raid at his residence in Imphal East district’s Khurai locality.
Police on Sunday said, “During initial interrogation, Thokchom Suresh aka Tombi (39), said he joined an underground group of the state in 1997. He is also the convener of the advisory committee of AMSU headquarters.”
Additional DGP (law and order) Clay Khongsai at a press conference here appealed to the student body not to have links with anti-national organisations or insurgents and to remain and work as a student body.

“Those who are not students should not join a students’ body,” the senior police officer said, adding, “We may hand over this case to a central agency if the need arises”.
Tipped off about the presence of some active cadres of an underground group, the police commandos of Imphal West district on Saturday morning conducted an operation at Khurai Kongpal Sajor Leikai and arrested Suresh with one .38 pistol and a magazine.
