IMPHAL: A drug dealer from Myanmar, recently arrested in Imphal in connection with the seizure of a large quantity of World is Yours (WY) tablets worth Rs 400 crore, has been detained under the National Security Act (NSA).
The detention order of the accused, Kyaw Kyaw Naing, aka Abdul Rahim (33) of Kawhmu village, Rangoon, was issued by the district magistrate (Thoubal) on January 29, a day after he was released on bail by a Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (ND&PS) court, a police officer told TOI on Monday.

Following the NSA detention order, Naing has again been lodged in Manipur central jail at Sajiwa in Imphal and the state NSA advisory board will hold a meeting to confirm his detention, the officer added.
Naing was arrested by a team of Thoubal district police, led by SP S Ibomcha Singh, from the gate of the Imphal airport on September 24 last year in connection with the seizure of 40 lakh WY tablets from the district's Phoudel Keirambi Mathak Leikai the same day. Police also seized Rs 60,000, some US dollars and Myanmarese currency, two mobile phones, passport and other documents from Naing, said to be an international drug lord involved in smuggling contraband substances in Myanmar, India and Bangladesh.
Altogether six people - Naing, two persons from Tripura and three from Thoubal district - were arrested in connection with the biggest ever drug haul in the northeast.
Based on a police report that Naing was acting in a manner prejudicial to the security of the state and maintenance of public order, and considering necessary with a view to prevent him from carrying out such acts, Thoubal district magistrate N Bandana Devi detained him under NSA.
Satisfied with the police report, the district magistrate " in exercise of the power conferred under sub-section 3 of Section 3 of the NSA 1980 read with home department's order" ordered detention of Naing under Section 3(2) of the NSA until further orders, the order stated.
