Congress candidate Pratap Singh Khachariyawas
Cabinet minister Pratap Singh Khachariyawas, the Congress candidate in Civil Lines constituency, is busy campaigning for the November 25 assembly elections. Speaking to TOI, he said BJP is working only with the agenda of dividing people and not talking about development work. Excerpts from an interview:
You are contesting against a new face and also facing anti-incumbency.
1x1 polls
What is your strategy for this election?
BJP will lose all eight seats in Jaipur city as no one knows the candidates it has fielded. In my constituency, neither do the residents nor the BJP workers know the party's candidate. One must go to the people, work for them, understand their issues, and, most importantly, know them, which I do. I have worked for the people of Civil Lines and have always been available for them.
How do you plan to develop Civil Lines constituency further if you win again?
Our government is giving guarantees to citizens for the future. Firstly, the Congress government has said that every woman will be given Rs 10,000. My personal guarantee is that my doors are open 24x7 for everyone. Irrespective of the party in power, Pratap Singh Khachariyawas has been and will always be available for the people. My first priority will always be the public and their welfare, and I will continue to do so.
Congress leaders have themselves quarrelled over development work done in Jaipur and publicly alleged that not enough work has been done in the past five years as the capital city deserves. What do you have to say as a cabinet minister?
Congress is the only government that has worked for the development of Jaipur city. The Ajmer Road elevated road was made by our government. Then there are the Bharat Jodo Setu, underpasses to give residents relief from traffic congestion, and the removal of five kilometres of high-tension lines, which has paved the way for residents to get land leases and other facilities. CCTV cameras are being installed across Civil Lines constituency. A lot of work has been done, and it will continue. BJP only knows how to make big statements about development on a national level, and, in reality, it does not do anything for the people. In fact, BJP is working only with the agenda of dividing people and not talking about development work.
