“In 2016, a PHED lab in Rajasthan got NABL certified and gradually all the 32 laboratories in the districts and the state laboratory in Jaipur got NABL accreditation. However, to handle a NABL certified lab chemists and laboratory assistants also needs to undergo a certification programme. Our 115 chemists and laboratory assistants had already received this certificate. Remaining, 32 would get certified during the two-day programme,” HS Devenda, chief chemist of PHED, told TOI.
Officials stated, broadly, PHED chemists and laboratory assistants carry out three types of jobs – technical managements, quality control and quality management.
Now, those who have received the mandatory NABL certificate will be allowed only to carry out jobs related only to technical managements in a NABL certified lab.
