Jaipur: Police detained eight youths, including president of
Rajasthan Berozgar Ekikrit Mahasangh, from outside Nehru Garden on Wednesday as they tried to gherao the residence of rural development and panchayati raj minister Ramesh Chand Meena.
They demanded recruitment of panchayati raj junior engineers (JENs) in 2,644 posts, as promised in the Congress government’s first
budget.
Later, they were released.
“The government will have to fulfil our demands even if they arrest us again. This is a promise made by the government in the first budget. How long will the government delay? This is going to be this government’s fifth budget. Why isn’t the minister meeting us? There have been so many agreements with the government, but it has failed to fulfil our demands. The talks with officials of the chief minister’s office (CMO) on Wednesday also failed,” said Upen Yadav, who was detained by police on Wednesday.
“The government is going back on its promise despite Lucknow and Gujarat agreements, written agreements with ministers and the first budget announcement to recruit panchayati raj junior engineers. Panchayati raj minister Ramesh Meenaji had also announced in the state assembly that recruitment would be done soon,” he said.
Hundreds of unemployed youths gathered under the banner of Rajasthan Berojgar Ekikrit Mahasangh (RBEM) gheraoed Rajasthan Staff Selection Board (RSSB) headquarters in Jaipur on Monday. They demanded the release of the results of recruitment exams for the posts of physical training instructors (PTIs), laboratory assistants, librarians, firemen and others.
The RBEM members also demanded the arrest of the masterminds of paper leaks.
