JAIPUR: In a significant decision, the state government on Thursday decided to provide relief to officers and employees of the state government who have more than two children. The department of personnel issued an order to grant promotion to those employees and officers who have had more than two children after June 1, 2002. Such officials and employees will now be eligible for promotion.
Earlier, the government had put a ban on the promotion of officers and employees who have more than two children.

These officers and employees used to be granted promotion and salary hike after a delay of three years.
According to an official, this rule was implemented in 2004 during the BJP government led by Vasundhara Raje as the chief minister. Her government had decided to stop the promotion of any state employee or officer after the birth of a third child after June 1, 2002.
At that time, the government had decided to stop promotion and other benefits of such employees and officers for five years. For instance, if an employee had a promotion due on January 1, 2005, it was to be given to them on January 1, 2010. The employee's selection grade was also withheld during this period.
In 2017, the government reduced the period of this promotion from five to three years. However, there was a constant demand to remove the provision as it was a setback for officers and employees falling under this category. This led the Ashok Gehlot-led government to take the decision to promote and give salary hike to employees and offers having more than two children.
"The demand was first raised by Rajasthan Housing Board two years ago. Our union had also met former chief secretary Niranjan Arya and submitted a memorandum demanding the withdrawal of the decision to stop promotion for three years. We welcome the decision as it would benefit the families of many employees," said Dashrath Singh, the state president of Rajasthan Housing Board Employees Union (RHBEU).
