Students can win cash prizes up to Rs 1.5 lakh across both waste streams. The best original ideas for each waste category will be awarded cash prizes of Rs. 50,000 and Rs. 25,000, respectively. The biggest challenge in recycling and disposing of waste is lack of knowledge and rudimentary waste management practices that threaten the public health and environment.
“The idea behind this hackathon is to nudge young minds to bring out their out-of-the-box ideas to identify valuable resources and potential products from waste streams and utilise them for their environmental and economic value,” said Naveen Mahajan, chairperson, RSPCB.
He said, “The ideas will be evaluated through a jury panel based on novelty of the idea and degree of innovation, practicability and sustainability of the solution.”
The event will be a platform to showcase potential for technology, design and innovation to create a more sustainable future and provide an opportunity for participants to collaborate on ideas that make a real difference in the sector of waste management. The focus will be on reducing, reusing and recycling the waste and educating young minds on waste management practices, as well as lucrative business opportunities in waste recycling sector.
