Etawah dist villagers attack power men during anti-theft raid
Kanpur: Inspection team of the power department faced violence when villagers launched an attack, damaging their vehicles and forcing them to flee in Etawah district on Saturday. Three junior engineers escaped the assault narrowly. During an anti-theft campaign in Bhatpura village, locals surrounded and attacked the power department team, smashing their vehicle windows and snatching their mobile phones. The inspection team, including three junior engineers and support staff, managed to escape and sought help at Saifai police station.
The authorities filed charges against six individuals, including four named suspects and two unidentified persons. The incident occurred when junior engineers Vijay Shankar, Rajesh Prasad, and Ramchandra, accompanied by their team, arrived in an SUV and another vehicle to conduct inspections and collect outstanding dues in Bhatpura village.
The situation escalated when the team found unauthorised use of electricity at the residence of Ranveer Singh Yadav through an illegal hook connection. The family's objection to disconnection led to disturbance, drawing a crowd that surrounded the inspection team. The situation turned violent with physical assault and damage to official vehicles. The team's mobile phones were forcibly taken before they managed to escape.
Following the incident, the team reported the matter at Saifai police station. Though police arrived at the village, the perpetrators had already left. Based on junior engineer Vijay Shankar's statement, police registered cases against Shilu, Lavish Yadav, Ankit Yadav, and Jayprakash Yadav's son, along with two unnamed individuals. SHO R K Sharma confirmed the accused face charges of obstructing govt work, assault, and damaging govt property, with efforts underway to apprehend them.
