Student assaulted, forced to convert

Kanpur: A 23-year-old student fell victim to deception when a youth from Bajaria established a friendship while hiding his religious identity. He sexually assaulted her with false promises of matrimony and subsequently coerced her to change her faith, whilst being verbally abusive. Upon visiting his residence to lodge a complaint, she faced harassment from his elder brother, who also issued death threats. The woman, who hails from Chhattisgarh and studies in Kakadev, reported that her acquaintance with Suraj from Kanghi Mohal, Bajaria, began two years ago. He manipulated her into a romantic relationship and subsequently exploited her physically, citing marriage prospects. When confronted about marriage, Suraj turned aggressive and abusive.On visiting his house, she learnt his actual identity was Zubair Ahmed. Despite their different religious backgrounds, when she persisted in marriage discussions, Zubair pressured her to convert. Following her refusal, he issued death threats and verbal abuse. When she approached his elder brother, Fuzail Ahmed, he pulled her and misbehaved with her. The student subsequently registered a complaint at Bajaria police station. Authorities have filed charges including sexual exploitation under false marriage promises and forced religious conversion. tnn
