Kanpur: A 13-year-old boy sustained a bullet injury under mysterious circumstances late on Friday night near the main entrance of Collectorate office. However, no one heard the sound of gunshot.
Some locals took the injured teenager to Ursala Hospital. Medical staff confirmed the boy was stable and notified law enforcement.
At midnight on Friday, the boy reached Ursala Hospital with an injury. On examining the wound doctors found it to be a bullet injury and alerted the police.
ADCP East Manoj Kumar Pandey visited the hospital to collect the boy's statement. He was discharged after treatment. Investigations showed that the boyvwas shot from the front, with the bullet creating a four-centimetre exit wound on his back.
The ADCP also reached the spot for investigations. The forensic unit recovered a .32 calibre cartridge from the spot.
Pandey said that the Unnao-based boy operates a food stall near the Collectorate entrance along with his companions. After the work, they all rest in a lawyer's chamber. The boy told police that while urinating near the main gate around 11:30 pm an auto passed by, and he sustained a shoulder injury. Although the CCTV camera at the gate was non-operational, Operation Trinetra cameras captured the auto's movement.
"The auto's three occupants claimed that they were purchasing eggs. Neither the police personnel nor the Collectorate guards reported hearing any gunshot," said the ADCP further. "We will question the boy again in this regard," he added.
