Kochi: Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) state president Syed Sadikali Shihab Thangal has demanded the Union government to bring back normalcy in
Manipur.
Inaugurating a night march organized by the Youth League in Kochi on Saturday, he said that massacres and riot in Manipur should be stopped immediately. The recent incidents of violence in Manipur are viewed by the country with utmost concern, Thangal said.
The situation in Manipur is a threat to the democratic and federal system in the country, he said.
It is up to the Union government to ensure the safety and security of states as well. But minorities in Manipur are facing insecurity Thangal said.
Youth League state president Sayyid Munavarali Shihab Thangal led the night march, which started from Kalamassery at 9pm. There had not been such a riot which lasted for so long. There are no parallels for the Manipur riot in Indian history, Thangal said.
The Prime Minister should intervene to bring back peace in Manipur, he said. Governments, both the state and Union, should take the initiative to end the violence, Thangal said.
The march concluded near Saint George Forane Church at Edappally.
