New scorpion species discovered in Kolhapur district

New scorpion species discovered in Kolhapur district
Kolhapur: Researchers from Pattankodoli area of Kolhapur district discovered a new scorpion species, named 'isometrus dnyandeoi', which mainly lives on coconut trees in the Pattankodoli area.
The findings were published in the international journal of the Bombay Natural History Society.
Mahesh Bandgar and Kranti Bandgar from Sangola, Prof Dr. Omkar Yadav and Saurabh Kininge from MLA Shashikant Shinde College, Dr Amrut Bhosale of Dahiwadi College in Satara, Devendra Bhosale of Dr DY Patil Technical Campus, and Ashutosh Suryavanshi from Kolhapur contributed to this research.This species was first discovered by Bandgar, Suryavanshi, and Bhosale.
Prof Dr. Omkar Yadav, a researcher, said, "The species 'Isometrus dnyandeoi' was found on the trees of farm embankments in the Pattankodoli region. They are not easily spotted because the colour of these scorpions camouflages with the trunk of trees. "
Bhosale from Dr DY Patil Technical Campus said, "This species is threatened due to deforestation from development activities."
