Kolhapur: Residents of the city's Phulewadi area have undertaken a drive to fill several potholes on the stretch to Vashi Naka Ring Road at their own expense, citing frustration with the road quality and frequent accidents on the route.
They emphasized that despite repeated requests to the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) to repair the road, the issue has remained unaddressed.

Regular commuters also pointed out that this situation is echoed in several more city areas.
In the latest citizen-led drive, potholes on the road between PN Patil Garage and Jai Bhawani Colony were filled using cement, gravel and murum. The initiative was sponsored by Phulewadi Society directors, Sunil Chile and Pratap Chile.
Sunil told TOI, "The ring road here has been left incomplete for the last four years and is known as a ‘road of potholes'. There must be at least a thousand ditches on this stretch."
Participants in the drive asked whether KMC will now wait for residents of all areas to fill potholes themselves. With Rs25 lakh already allocated by KMC for repairs on this road, they further demanded to know how this funding has been utilized.
Another resident said, "We were fed up and decided to take matters into our own hands. We bought the material and filled up some of the more dangerous potholes. However, there are still hundreds of such ditches left and KMC needs to pay attention to fixing this problem before some casualty occurs."
