KOZHIKODE: Minister for ports Ahammad Devarkovil said that there was nothing wrong in Adani Vizhinjam Port and its contracting company seeking protection of central forces at the project site but added that
Kerala government does not need any such assistance for maintain law and order outside the project site.
Addressing the media on Sunday Devarkovil said that it was not the state government which sought central security.
"The construction company has many choices. They have invested crores of rupees at the project site. Also, there are barges and other equipment there. As the project has the participation of the central government, I don't think there is anything wrong if they seek the presence of central forces along with the protection the state government is currently providing," he added.
Devarkovil said that usually, it is outside the project site where there are chances of law and order issues and added that Kerala government and the police have the required mechanism to ensure law and order. "Already, the required police force is there. As far as the construction company is concerned, there is nothing wrong if they wish for protection by another agency," he said.
When asked if there was involvement of outside forces in the violence unleashed as part of the protests against the project at Vizhinjam, he said that investigations on such reports are underway and he will be able to respond on the issue only after that.
