Lucknow: A 13-member team of cyclists from
Assam and Tripura visited Lucknow as part of their 3,500km journey from Kokrajhar (Assam) to
Kashmir.
The cycle yatra has members from Bodo tribes and Muslim, Rajbanshi, Bengali and Assamese communities. Starting journey on September 3, they travelled through Siliguri, Kishanganj, Muzaffarpur, Madhubani, Chhapra, Gorakhpur and Faizabad to reach Lucknow on Wednesday.
The cyclists, in the age group of 16-30 years, are sharing the experience of peace-building efforts undertaken in Kokrajhar for the past four years after the 2012 riots between Bodos and Muslims.
"In the 27 days of the journey, this is the first state capital we're passing through. This is also the first with cycle tracks," said 18-year-old Joyshree Roy, one of the three girls in the group.
The group met the CM and governor and shared their experiences. Class XII student Birshrawn Goyary said, "I had to seek permission from the village chief and only then could I convince my parents to allow me on the trip." My family often cautioned me about Kashmir."
Taking care of their cycles and repairing them themselves, the 13 members will leave for Sandila on Friday morning.
