Lucknow: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday carried out extensive searches at locations linked to the banned terror outfit Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) across multiple states and Union Territories (UTs) as part of investigations into the Chandigarh grenade attack case.
Searches were conducted in Lakhimpur Kheri in U,
Punjab's Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Bathinda and Ferozepur districts; Rudrapur in Uttarakhand; and Chandigarh. These locations were linked to suspects associated with US-based terrorist Harpreet Singh, alias Happy Passian. Incriminating evidence, including mobile phones, digital devices and documents, was seized during the operations.
The case, registered on the directives of the ministry of home affairs, relates to a grenade attack on a house in Sector 10/D, Chandigarh, on Sept 9, 2024. The arrested accused, Rohan Masih and Vishal Masih, executed the attack.
Investigations revealed a larger conspiracy involving Pakistan-based Harwinder Singh Sandhu, alias Rinda, and US-based Harpreet Singh, both linked to BKI. The plot aimed to attack a retired police officer and involved the recruitment of Indian operatives, funding of terror activities, smuggling of arms into India, and their transfer using a ‘dead drop' model.
The NIA's investigations into the case are ongoing, with efforts to uncover further details of the terror network.
