Ludhiana: The industry in Ludhiana, which has been on the receiving end from multiple fronts for the past few years, expected some respite from the budget — but their hopes were dashed. Sections in the industry feel that the budget is populist, designed to appease the vote bank at the expense of the industry. Industrialists pointed out that Ludhiana drives the industry in Punjab, which is both a landlocked and border state. As such, they said, it required special packages like the ones allocated to the neighbouring Himachal Pradesh and J&K.
