Ludhiana: A city-based businessman received an extortion call from an unknown international number. The caller threatened to kill him if he did not pay Rs 30 lakh. Division number 6 police lodged an FIR against the unidentified accused under sections 308 (4) (punishment for extortion) and 351 (2) (criminal intimidation) of BNS against unidentified accused on the complaint of Ravish Gupta, 37, a resident of Mall Enclave.
The complainant, Ravish Gupta, said that for the past few days, he had been receiving calls and messages on WhatsApp from an international number.The accused demanded Rs 30 lakh from him and threatened to kill him if he did not pay.
Inspector Balwinder Kaur, SHO, division number 8 police station, said that the police lodged an FIR against the unidentified accused on charges of extortion and criminal intimidation. The police probe is ongoing. Meanwhile, necessary arrangements for the safety of the victim have been made.
