Ludhiana: A woman from Mullanpur allegedly kidnapped and thrashed a travel agent with the help of her aides. The woman's nephew got a Russian visa from the travel agent but on reaching Russia, he was deported from the airport. The agent allegedly failed to return the money despite repeated requests.
The accused allegedly called him near Verka Milk Plant on Ferozepur Road on the pretext of getting another visa.However, the victim said that they took him to Mullanpur and thrashed him.
Sarabha Nagar police lodged an FIR against Jasveer Kaur, Raju, Bunty – residents of Mullanpur, Gurbaz Singh, Kamaljit Kaur, and Meva Singh of Waraich village on the complaint of the victim, Lovinder Singh of New Azad Nagar, Bapu Market, Lohara. Police said that Jasveer Kaur got her nephew Amritpal Singh's visa for Russia from Lovinder Singh, for which he charged them Rs 3 lakh. Amritpal flew to Russia but was deported on landing at the airport.
Inspector Neeraj Chaudhary, SHO, Sarabha Nagar, said that according to travel agent Lovinder, Amritpal returned to India himself. However, Amritpal claimed that he had been deported by the airport authority of Russia. Jasveer Kaur asked Lovinder to return Rs 3 lakh, which he did not do.
"Jasveer Kaur hatched a conspiracy with her aides and called Lovinder Singh to meet her near Verka Milk Plant on Ferozepur Road, saying that her husband also wanted to go abroad and she wanted to discuss it. When Lovinder arrived, the accused kidnapped him in a car and took him to Mullanpur. They thrashed him and asked him to return Rs 3 lakh. Later, the accused released him as Lovinder made them talk to one of their mutual contacts who assured them to get the money returned," said inspector Chaudhary.
After being released from their custody, the victim lodged a complaint with the police. An FIR was lodged under sections 140 (3) (Kidnapping), 191 (3) (rioting, armed with a deadly weapon), 190 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object), 61 (2) (Criminal conspiracy) of BNS. The accused are yet to be arrested.
