Raid party in-charge assaulted, robbed in Ludhiana
Ludhiana: A group of men Friday night assaulted the in-charge of a police raiding party at EWS Colony on Tajpur Road over old rivalry. The accused also vandalised his car and fled with Rs 70,000 kept in it.
The victim has been identified as Harpreet Singh of Chandpur, Nawanshehr. The main accused have been identified as Amar and Prince, who were accompanied by three of their aides. Their identities are yet to be ascertained.
Harpreet said he heads the raid party for a wine group. A few days ago, he got a man arrested for selling liquor illegally. He happened to be Amar's brother. A case against him was also registered at division 7 police station. Since then, Amar wanted to seek revenge.
Harpreet said Friday night, when he was passing through EWS Colony in a pickup van, the accused intercepted him. They flung bricks at his vehicle and also assaulted him.
Following the incident, Harpreet lodged an FIR with Division 7 police.
Subinspector Sikhwinder Singh, who is investigating the case, said a case has been registered. Efforts are being made to arrest the accused, who have been on the run after the incident.
The accused have been booked under sections 304 (snatching), 115 (2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 126 (2) (punishment for wrongful restraint), 351 (criminal intimidation), 324 (4) (mischief causing damage to the amount of Rs 20,000, 3 (5) (criminal act committed by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of BNS.
