4-year-old girl mauled to death by stray dogs in Saharanpur
Meerut: A four-year-old girl died in Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur on Saturday, a day after being attacked by a pack of stray dogs. Police said the girl, identified as Halima Khan, was playing alone near her home in Parli village in Mirzapur area on Friday when she was attacked.
Senior superintendent of police (SSP), Saharanpur, Rohit Singh Sajwan said, "Hearing her screams, villagers rushed to her rescue, using sticks to drive the animals away. By then, she had sustained severe injuries and was bleeding profusely." She was first taken to the district hospital and later referred to a specialised medical centre. After receiving treatment, she returned home on Saturday but succumbed to her injuries around 10 pm.
"We learnt about the incident on Sunday. The family did not file any formal complaint, and the girl was buried without an autopsy. They did not inform the police before the burial," said the SSP.
He added that police have reached out to villagers to discuss measures to deal with the stray dogs. "We will contact dog catchers to relocate them, if needed, to prevent similar incidents in the future," he said.
This is not an isolated case in Saharanpur in the recent past. In Sept last year, a four-year-old boy was mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs in Islam Nagar village in Rampur Maniharan area. He was playing near an agricultural field where his parents were working when six dogs attacked him.
