Brazilian flyer hides 16.5cr cocaine in body, arrested
Mumbai: A 24-year-old Brazilian who allegedly smuggled 1.649 kg of cocaine inside his body was arrested by the Customs after he landed in Mumbai on Friday. He was detained and admitted to JJ Hospital, where he purged 170 laminated capsules containing 1.649 kg of cocaine worth Rs 16.5 crore.
The Brazilian national, arrested under the NDPS Act, has been identified as Fernando Santosh Da Silva. Officials said that based on specific intelligence, the officials of Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Customs intercepted Silva, who arrived from São Paulo to Mumbai via Paris. As he was suspected of carrying some contraband, the officials cornered him. They examined his baggage, which did not result in recovery, but as the information about him carrying contraband was reliable, officials cornered him. On interrogation, he admitted to carrying contraband by ingesting it.
Permission from the court was taken and the Brazilian admitted to hospital to purge the drugs.
