Mysuru: Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) is making preparations to submit a detailed project report (DPR) for the creation of a sustainable, liveable, and eco-friendly Mysuru city. It plans to seek financial aid of Rs 2,843 crore for this project from the World Bank.
Under the project, MCC plans to establish a utility corridor at a cost of Rs 400 crore, remodel its underground drainage system and stormwater drains at a cost of Rs 500 crore, establish a surveillance system at Rs 410 crore, set up effective solid waste disposal mechanisms at Rs 110 crore, build sewage water treatment processing units at a cost of Rs 1,139 crore, and improve the drinking water supply at Rs 276 crore.
Following directions from Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, MCC held a meeting regarding the sustainable development of Mysuru by seeking the required funds from the World Bank. Deputy commissioner G Lakshikanth Reddy told TOI that the district administration and MCC prepared a DPR for the sustainable development of the city by seeking funds from the World Bank. "The project is at a primary stage and not yet finalised," he said.
"As Mysuru emerged as a prominent destination, a tourist circuit attracting people from across the world, and an education hub, witnessing rapid development after Bengaluru, the city needs such aid for sustainable development," former mayor Shivakumar told TOI. "It would be helpful if the lending agencies fund such sustainable development initiatives of the city," he said.
Sources said that Reddy, along with then MCC commissioner Ashad Ur Rehaman Sharif, discussed the project with the World Bank officials in the presence of the chief secretary on Dec 24 at Bengaluru. The proposal is at the discussion level with the World Bank officials, and if they agree to fund such initiatives, it would be helpful for the comprehensive development of the city, they said.
