Shivamogga: The district administration has organised a state funeral with complete military honours on Sunday morning for a airman from Hosanagara, Shivamogga district, Karnataka.
The airman, Manjunath, died during a skydiving exercise at the Indian Air Force's Parachute Training School in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, early on Friday. Junior warrant officer Manjunath, 36, who resided in Goranagadde, Hosanagara taluk, met with the unfortunate incident, confirmed Shivamogga DC Gurudatt Hegde to TOI.
Manjunath was conducting training for a group of 12 personnel when the tragedy occurred, according to sources. While 11 trainees completed their jumps successfully, a malfunction in Manjunath's parachute led to the fatal accident.
The unexpected loss has left Manjunath's family and friends devastated. His wife, who is presently expecting their first child, survives him. Manjunath married a woman from Assam in 2019, and has completed 18 years in service.
The state funeral is scheduled for Sunday morning at the Hosanagara stadium. Local MLA Gopalkrishna Belur and other officials will attend the ceremony.
The bereaved family has acknowledged the help provided by the district administration and the Indian Air Force during their tough time.
