MADIKERI: A tiger was spotted by the villagers roaming in Channapur village under Gowdalli Gram Panchayat limits of Somwarpet taluk.
The big cat’s pugmark was found in a residential area, which caused concern among the people of Channapur and surrounding villages.
Eyewitnesses informed the forest department that they spotted the tiger near the village lake in Channapur on Monday night. DRFO Surya and field staff, with the cooperation of the villagers, located the tiger's pugmarks. Later, camera traps were installed in the area, and other measures were taken to track the tiger's movements.
Around 8pm, villagers Pradeep and C.L. Venkatesh spotted the tiger on the side of the road when they were sitting in a car. They immediately called their families and other villagers, warning them not to come out of their houses.
The tiger was later spotted at the residence of C.A. Krishnappa and entered the coffee plantation. The Gowdalli Gram Panchayat cautioned the residents through a loudspeaker this morning not to go out with their cattle.
The department's records show that tigers were spotted in the area in the past. The forest department has installed camera traps in the village to monitor the movement of the tiger. Forest officials said that action will be taken to rescue it.
