NAGPUR: One person died and five workers remain trapped following an explosion at the Bhandara ordnance factory in
Maharashtra, which manufactures high-energy explosives. The incident occurred on Friday, with rescue operations ongoing in the affected section of the facility.
According to sources, the blast occurred in the factory’s low-temperature plastic explosive manufacturing unit.
The rescue operations were under way when TOI contacted the offiicals at noon.
Later, the chief minister, Devendra Fadnavis, issued a statement on X saying that one person was found dead. The statement also mentioned that around 14 persons were reported to be trapped in the section, out of whom five were rescued.
The factory at Bhandara produces materials like HMX and RDX, which are ultimately used for filling a wide range of ammunition. The factory comes under the Pune-headquartered Munitions India Limited, a defence PSU formed after the corporatisation of ordnance factories.
