Nashik: Two workers at an edible oil factory in the Dhule MIDC were killed in an explosion on Saturday evening. The Mohadi police are investigating the case to find out what caused the explosion.
The deceased workers have been identified as 25-year-old Upendra Rajbhar and 23-year-old Sandeep Rajbhar, both residents of Ballia district in Uttar Pradesh.
Assistant inspector Shashikant Patil, of the Mohadi police station, who registered a case of accidental death, said the incident took place around 7.30pm on Saturday. Upendra and Sandeep, employed in a soya oil company, were working atop a 13ft metal tank. The explosion caused them to fall off the tank. What led to the explosion is yet to be ascertained. While Upendra died on the spot, Sandeep succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical treatment at the Dhule Medical College around 11.30pm.
There was one more worker who suffered injuries in the accident, but his condition is stable. According to primary reports, the workers were doing some welding work when the explosion occurred. The assistant inspector added that gas formed in the tank could have led to the explosion.
Soon after the explosion, people in the area rushed to the accident spot and shifted the injured men to the Dhule Medical College. Fire tenders were also sent to the site. Police added that the case will be investigated and necessary legal action will be taken against those found responsible for the accident.
