Bhujbal urges CM to propose new Nashik airport terminal
Nashik: In a letter to chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, former deputy CM Chhagan Bhujbal demanded a new passenger terminal be proposed in Nashik under the ‘Special Assistance Scheme to States for Capital Investment 2025-26'. He also called for the inclusion ofNashik International Airport in the India Middle East Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC).
Bhujbal also reminded the CM that the Union finance ministry approved Nashik airport as an International Courier Terminal (ICT) on Aug 21, 2020, boosting Maharashtra's industrial and export policy under the IMEC, achieving sustainable all-round development.
‘Nashik already was approved an immigration facility in Dec 2023, allowing it to operate international flights. An ICT was announced to cater to the entire north Maharashtra region, besides it being the only non-regional centre elevated to the standard. Nashik is soon going to be rail and road linked to Vadhavan Port, for which the railway already announced funds for the final location survey. Add to it the dry port being established at Niphad in Nashik district. Considering all these, it is a must that the state govt quickly makes a presentation to the central govt for assistance in the construction of the airport," said Bhujbal in the letter. The central govt approved Rs55 crore for setting up an Integrated Air Cargo Facility at Shirdi International Airport under the 'Special Assistance Scheme to States for Capital Investment'. The state can also seek funds for an international-level airport.
'The state govt needs to convene a meeting of the Nashik Simhastha Kumbh Mela Summit Committee, include Nashik International Airport under IMEC, and propose a new passenger terminal here. This has to be done on priority - before Kumbh Mela 2026-28, such that visitors to Nashik Simhastha Kumbh Mela will benefit most,' said Bhujbal in the letter.
