RTO office in Jewar? Transport chief seeks nearby land
Noida: The UP transport department has urged the state government to allocate centrally located land for an assistant regional transport office (ARTO) in Noida and Greater Noida, citing accessibility concerns for residents.
Transport commissioner BN Singh has written to chief secretary Manoj Kumar Singh, highlighting the challenges people face in availing transport-related services due to the lack of a dedicated ARTO office.
The existing facility in Sector 32 is inadequate, and while land was allotted in Jewar near the Noida International Airport, its distant location—50 km from Noida and 30 km from Greater Noida—makes it impractical for most residents.
The request also seeks the chief secretary's directive to the Noida and Greater Noida authorities to allot land for the office, emphasising the necessity of ensuring public convenience and safety.
Manoj Kumar Singh noted that in 2020, land was identified in Sector 108 for the ARTO office, but it was later allocated to the police commissionerate office.
He has now requested similar consideration for the transport office, emphasizing public convenience.
The district of Gautam Buddh Nagar, covering 1,440 sq km, has a high concentration of professionals, government employees, and defence personnel who frequently require services like driving licenses, vehicle registration, and permits.
The transport commissioner argued that forcing people to travel long distances to Jewar would be time-consuming, costly, and lead to increased congestion and pollution.
He suggested that the Jewar site could be reserved for a future extension rather than serving as the district's primary ARTO office at this stage.
To address the issue, the transport department has proposed alternative solutions. If land cannot be provided in Noida or Greater Noida, a portion of the city bus terminal in Sector 82 or another government-owned building could be designated for transport services as an immediate measure.
Alongside the chief secretary, the commissioner has also reached out to the CEOs of Noida and GNIDA, urging them to identify and allocate a centrally located land parcel.
He stressed that an easily accessible regional RTO office would significantly improve public convenience, enhance road safety, and streamline regulatory oversight of transport services in the region.
