Patna: Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary said here on Wednesday that the govt has decided to build three pontoon bridges across the rivers Ganga and Kosi at a cost of Rs 56.81 crore that will facilitate communication facilities for the people of seven districts, including six in
Bihar and one in Uttar Pradesh.
"The three pontoon bridges will eliminate the usage of boats by around 10 lakh people to cross the two rivers," Choudhary said in a communique.
The six districts which will be benefited are Bhojpur, Buxar, Madhepura, Khagaria, Samastipur and Vaishali and Balia in Uttar Pradesh.
While a 732-metre long pontoon bridge would be set up across the river Ganga between Mehuli ghat in Bhojpur district and Sitab Diara in Ballia district in UP involving an expenditure of Rs 15.20 crore, another similar bridge of the same length across the same river would be built between Nainijor village in Buxar district and Haldi village in Ballia district at a cost of Rs 16.47 crore.
The third pontoon bridge of 500-metre length would be constructed across the river Kosi that will link Madhepura Zero Mile point in Madhepura district and Kapasia Ghat in Khagaria district. The building of this pontoon bridge would entail an expenditure of Rs 25.13 crore, and benefit people living in around 14 panchayats of the two districts.
