Will shift to my village to take up farming: President Droupadi Murmu

PATNA: President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday surprised everyone by revealing her future plan about shifting to her village and taking up farming once her tenure comes to an end.
"President ke baad jana hai gaon kheti karne," she told the jampacked Bapu Sabhagar in Patna after inaugurating the 4th agriculture road map of Bihar. Stating that she too is a "kisan ki beti" (daughter of a farmer), the President said she would come to Bihar to know from the farmers how farming is done, grains stored and crops productivity increased.
She also described herself as a "Bihari" in more than one sense and even cited a reason for this."My home state Odisha is historically linked to Bihar. That's why I think I can also call myself a Bihari," Murmu said, amid clapping from the audience. Historical records state that on March 22, 1912, both Bihar and Orissa divisions were separated from the Bengal Presidency as Bihar and Orissa provinces.
She also stated that although this was her first visit to the state, she is very much acquainted with the people and the culture of Bihar.
"While discharging the duties of the governor of the neighbouring state of Jharkhand for about six years, I have closely known and experienced the culture and lifestyle of Bihar," she asserted.
Murmu happens to be the first person belonging to the tribal community and only the second woman after Pratibha Patil to hold the office since July 25 last year.
