"We have renewed our efforts to host the 39th National Games in Chhattisgarh, following the 38th National Games in Uttarakhand in January-February 2025. We had an agreement with the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) regarding the hosting of the National Games after the 35th edition in Kerala in 2015. However, the plan could not materialise due to certain developments in different quarters, including political, in the state. The 39th National Games is due in 2027 and we will try to host it in our state," Sisodia said.
"Since its formation in 2000, Chhattisgarh made steady progress in sports, aiming to establish itself on the national stage. While the state has not been a consistent leader in medal tallies at the National Games, it showed significant improvement over the years, thanks to strategic investments in infrastructure, talent scouting, and athlete development by the state govt," he said.
The state administration implemented comprehensive sports development programmes, including specialised academies for hockey, archery, and athletics. Traditional sports like malkhamb, kabaddi, and kho-kho have been revitalised, with integration into state-level competitions. Sports commentator Jashwant Claudius noted that whilst Uttarakhand's cold climate might affect Chhattisgarh's athletes, their thorough preparation and advanced training equipment suggest promising results.
