Chhattisgarh: Tricolour unfurled for first time in Sukma’s Tumalpaad, former Maoist hotbed

NEW DELHI: In a historic moment, the Indian national flag was unfurled for the first time in Tumalpaad, a Maoist-affected region in Sukma, Chhattisgarh, on the occasion of the 76th Republic Day.
The celebrations were led by Himanshu Pandey, Commandant of the 74th Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), marking a significant step toward peace and normalcy in the area, which has long been a hotspot for Maoist activities.
The event saw active participation from local villagers, reflecting the region's journey toward stability. After the flag unfurling, Commandant Pandey distributed sweets and educated the villagers about the significance of Republic Day, further fostering a sense of unity and patriotism.
This milestone underscores the relentless efforts of security forces in restoring peace to Maoist-dominated regions like Sukma, paving the way for progress and development.
Chhattisgarh CM Extends Republic Day Greetings
Chhattisgarh chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai extended greetings to the people of the state on this occasion, emphasizing the spirit of unity, democracy, and respect for the Constitution.
Taking to X, Sai highlighted the significance of Republic Day in inspiring good governance and fostering development across the state, from Surguja to Bastar.

“Respecting the spirit of the Constitution, our government is continuously working for the upliftment and prosperity of every section of society. Happy Republic Day to all of you!” Sai wrote.
The chief minister also paid tribute to Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar and the members of the Constituent Assembly, noting the completion of 75 years since the Indian Constitution's implementation. He urged the people of Chhattisgarh to actively contribute toward achieving the vision of a "Developed India—Developed Chhattisgarh."
“Let us follow the constitutional ideals and play an active role in fulfilling the resolution of 'Developed India—Developed Chhattisgarh.' Hail India, Hail Chhattisgarh!” Sai added in another post.
