Rajkot: A man with at least 14 criminal offences against him was fatally attacked by unidentified assailants wielding sharp weapons in Bakharla village of Porbandar district on Sunday night. Meraman Langi, in his late 40s, sustained grievous injuries and was pronounced dead by the 108 emergency response team.
Bagvadar police station personnel and Porbandar rural DySP Surjit Mahedu arrived at the crime scene immediately after the incident. A case was registered at Bagvadar police station.
Mahedu told TOI on Sunday night that the crime took place at 8.30pm. Police were trying to identify the assailants responsible for Langi's death.
Police records revealed that Langi was an accused in the murder of Congress leader Mulu Modhwadia, but he had been acquitted by the trial court. Sources said that Langi was the nephew of Bhima Dula, another accused in the Modhwadia murder case.
Records indicate that Langi had 14 criminal cases, including murder, assault, and unlawful weapons possession, registered against him.
