Jamshedpur: East Singhbhum has topped the state in Anaemia Mukt Bharat (AMB) programme, which is part of the National Health Mission (NHM) run by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
The district has scored a total value point of 89.7% and scored first among all 24 districts, while neighbouring West Singhbhum with 85.4% stood fifth and adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan with 78.9% came 16th respectively.
The key performance indicators for 2024-25 (up to December) released by the Health Mission Information System (HMIS) suggest that the district has scored excellent in all the four categories involving children (6-59 months), children (5- 9 years), adolescent (10-19 years), and pregnant women and lactating women.
Further, all the three districts of the Kolhan division are clubbed in the green block (75-95% value) for performing in the range of good to excellent.
Significantly, Dumka and Garhwa are clubbed in the red block (less than 24% value) for under-performing in the 5-9 years category. Besides Deoghar and Ranchi in the crimson red block (25-49.9% value) for performing average in the lactating mothers category.
The performance indicators have marked 16 districts in the yellow block that have performed in the range of 50-75% value in either of the four categories.
Launched in 2018 by the Govt of India, the programme aimed to reduce anaemia in children, adolescents and women. District civil surgeon Dr Sahir Pall said that every month performance of AMB is evaluated by NHM and accordingly score is given. "It is a dynamic process," he said. The district has improved its rank from fifth in September to first in December.
