The accused, identified as Shamshad Ansari, Akhilesh Bhuiyan, Mukhtar Ansari, and Navin alias Mitra Ranjan, are natives of Palamu district, they added.
Palamu superintendent of police (SP) Chandan Kumar Sinha said, "One of the men identified himself as a former inspector with Pipartarn police station, who was transferred two years ago, in plainclothes, while the other three donned camouflage police uniforms."

They asked the victims to visit Pipartarn police station the next day and collect their belongings."
Two country-made pistols, two live cartridges, three sets of camouflage police uniforms, 11 mobile phones, and a toy gun were seized from the accused. They used the toy gun to intimidate the motorists before looting them and knocked down their victims with a knuckle duster. The gang had once forced a motorist to transfer Rs 30,000 through a digital wallet, police added. “The victims never lodged any complaint out of fear. Recently, a victim was tracked to Lawalong in Chatra and persuaded to lodge an FIR,” SP Sinha stated.
