Gumla: Gumla district and sessions judge Dhruv Chandra Mishra, who chairs the district legal services authority (DLSA), on Sunday took suo moto cognizance of the double murder case reported by media houses. He asked DLSA secretary Ramkumar Lal Gupta to probe the case and take necessary action.
Sita Devi (68) and her daughter, Shanti Devi (48), were killed by relative Kamlesh Pradhan for ‘witchcraft' allegations on Thursday.
Para legal volunteers Rajesh Singh, Prem Kumar Shah, and Sundarmuni Barla visited the family members of the victims. Daughter-in-law of deceased Sita, Rajeshwari Devi, told them that Shanti, who was childless and separated from her husband, had been living with them for many years.
The DLSA called her agriculturist husband, Chithu Pradhan, to its office to record his statement.
DLSA secretary said, "We have appointed advocate Sudhir Kumar Pandey to provide legal aid to the victims' family. The process for compensation has been initiated."
