I am back in my karmabhoomi: Ex-Odisha guv Raghubar Das
Ranchi: Former Jharkhand chief minister Raghubar Das on Thursday returned to his "karmabhoomi", Jharkhand, after resigning from the post of Odisha governor early this week. A large number of BJP workers and supporters were waiting outside the airport as well as his Dhurwa-based residence to welcome him. Many BJP workers from Jamshedpur, too, drove to Ranchi to welcome him.
"I started by political journey with BJP as a grassroots-level worker. I committed myself to serve the party and the public in whatever capacity I was asked to over the past several decades. I am grateful to the party, President Droupadi Murmu, PM Narendra Modi, and home ministry Amit Shah for giving me an opportunity to serve as the governor of Odisha. Lord Jagannath has been kind to me. Now, I am back to my native state, which has also been my karmabhoomi (place of work)," Das remarked upon his return to Ranchi.
Dwelling on his 14-month experience in Odisha, he said, "While many think that the governor's post is a symbolic one, I have always believed that he, too, is a public representative. I tried to serve the people of Odisha to the best of my capability. I opened the doors of the Raj Bhavan for aam public (commoners) so that their concerns can be heard and solved."
Intrigue gripped political circles, especially within BJP, following his sudden resignation and its prompt acceptance by the President. Speculations are rife about Das's return to active politics and his role in the party. While many are hoping that he might be placed at the helm of the state unit, sections of party insiders did not rule out his elevation to the post of national BJP president. Both state and national presidents are expected to be announced over the next few months.
Referring to his next move, Das reiterated, "I was never inactive in Jharkhand politics. My party will decide my next role."
But Das would have to formally re-enrol himself as a BJP member for any further move. Contrary to earlier speculation of him taking membership within a day or two, sources claimed that he might do so next year.
A BJP member said, "He (Das) is the acting governor of Odisha till the new governor takes oath. Also, he may take membership or any announcement of his role is expected by January 15 when ‘khar mas' (inauspicious month) ends."
