Jharkhand Police seeks removal of fake social media account impersonating DGP
Ranchi: Jharkhand police requested a social media platform to remove a fake account created in the name of director general of police (DGP) Anurag Gupta. The police have also sought details of the person behind this impersonation.
DGP Gupta said, "Authorities will investigate whether the act was committed with criminal intent or merely a prank. The fake account, which contains a misspelled version of the DGP's name, has been sending friend requests to multiple individuals."
This isn't the first such incident in the state. In August 2023, cybercriminals created a fake account on a social media platform, impersonating the then Ranchi deputy commissioner Rahul Kumar Sinha and attempted to extort money from people.
The administration urged citizens not to engage in any financial transactions based on requests from suspicious accounts and report such matters immediately to the authorities.
The police are working to identify the perpetrator behind the latest impersonation case.
