SALEM: A couple and their 15-year-old daughter died by suicide at Arisipalayam in Salem city on Tuesday.
The deceased have been identified as R Palraj, 45, of Muthiyal Street in Arisipalayam, his wife P Rekha,38, and their daughter Jananishree, who was a Class X student. Palraj was running a silver jewellery manufacturing unit while Rekha was a homemaker.
On Tuesday morning, neighbours alerted police when they noticed that the door of the house had remained closed even after 9am. The police reached the spot, broke open the door and found the couple and their daughter hanging from the ceiling.
The bodies were taken to the Salem Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital for postmortem.
Initial investigations revealed that Palraj was facing financial difficulties with his silver ankle chain business and had taken loans from local lenders to build a house. Following the collapse of his business and his inability to repay the loans, he reportedly faced pressure from creditors. This situation led to depression for the family, ultimately resulting in their decision to end their lives, according to Pallapatty police inspector A Napoleon.
The police registered a case and began investigations.
