MADURAI: Ramanathapuram All Women Police arrested four youngsters who raped a woman when she went to relieve herself in the Puthendhal area in Ramanathapuram town. The incident occurred on December 29 when the 38-year-old woman went to see her daughter studying in a college.
The girl was staying in a hostel, and the woman, after visiting her daughter, was returning in an auto rickshaw.
When the vehicle neared Puthendhal around 8.30 pm, she asked the auto rickshaw driver to stop the vehicle and went to relieve herself near a railway track.
According to the woman, who filed a complaint with Ramanathapuram Town police on December 30, there were four youngsters in the area who attacked her and raped her that night.
Based on her complaint, the Ramanathapuram Town police were investigating. District SP G Chandeesh urged the police to expedite the enquiry, and the case was shifted to the All Women Police Station in Ramanathapuram.
The police identified the youngsters, Bhuvanesh Kumar (27), Saran Murugan (27), Selvakumar (27), and Kutti alias Muneeshkannan (26), from Puthendhal involved in the
rape.
The AWPS team nabbed the youngsters on December 31, 2024, and booked them for rape and threatening charges.
They were produced before Paramakudi Judicial Magistrate on Wednesday and were remanded in judicial custody in Ramanathapuram prison.
